Fishing Ethics

Fishing is a cultural tradition in Hawai‘i that is shared with island and coastal communities across the globe.  Fishing provides food, economic resources, recreation and opportunities for family bonding. It’s something we must be able to sustain. But today we are not on the right path. Fisheries and coral reefs are crashing due to a number of reasons as explained in the “Reef Threats” section (link).

If you are a fisher, you are part of the solution. Please fish responsibly by following all regulations and demonstrating responsible fishing to others. The concept of “take it now before someone else does” will not work.  For this tradition and livelihood to withstand, we all need to do our part.
