Activity Ideas
Here are a few activity ideas to help get you started in protecting our reefs:
- Organize an activity or host a special “Day of the Coral Reef.” This could involve a public festival, outreach event or street parade with a focus on celebrating coral reefs.
- Encourage local journalists to write features about issues important to coral reef in the media or write your own letters to the editor.
- Participate in beach cleanups and other activities to help keep our waters clean and the world’s reefs safe.
- Organize a community clean-up day and coral reef survey. Invite local schools and other organizations to participate.
- Work with teachers to help encourage coral reef conservation in their curricula.
- Refer to Getting Involved in Caring for Hawaii’s Coastal Resources: A Community Guidebook, for more volunteer and event ideas. The book can be downloaded at www.conservationpractice.org/upload/EntireGuideBook.pdf.
